Cal Ripken Jr. Baltimore Orioles Game Used Bat 1999 PSA/DNA GU 8 Uncracked

This outstanding Louisville Slugger Model S188 block letter Cal Ripken Jr. professional model bat dates to the 1999 MLB season. The bat is uncracked and shows exceptional game use. The front barrel displays checking (grain swelling) from repeated ball contact, while the left barrel contains numerous ball marks and stitch impressions, including blue ink transfers.The barrel was previously taped, though the tape has since been removed. A heavy coat of pine tar extends from the knob to the center brand. Ripken’s uniform number 8 is written in black marker on both the knob and the top of the barrel.According to Louisville Slugger factory records, Ripken ordered the S188 model on January 22 and March 4, 1999. Getty Images photographs—reference numbers 375098, 366132, and 365948—show Ripken at the plate using this block-letter model bat with a similarly heavy application of pine tar.This bat is accompanied by a an LOA from PSA/DNA (1B32083), which grades the bat a GU 8.
